For Diana, health care reform is about giving American families and small businesses -- not insurance companies -- control over their health care. For far too long, America’s health insurance system has made health care more costly, less accessible, and less efficient for families and small businesses. No one in America should have to declare bankruptcy because they can’t afford to pay their medical bills. Premiums should not be increasing at a rate of six times the rate of our GDP. That is why Diana is a supporter of the Affordable Care Act.

Today, the Affordable Care Act is making a significant difference for New York families. The law is slowing the growth of healthcare costs, has ended the practice of denying coverage to those with pre-existing conditions, and banned annual and lifetime limits on health coverage benefits. However, there are still too many people in America who don’t have the proper coverage. Diana will work to fix the issues in the Affordable Care Act to ensure every American has access to quality, affordable Healthcare.

The Affordable Care Act also gave women an opportunity to further take control of their medical decisions. The law makes preventative health care services such as mammograms and birth control free for people with health insurance. However, Republicans in Congress are fighting to get rid of these preventative services, and more. They want to defund Planned Parenthood, barring many low-income women from these necessary preventative health care services. Furthermore, the Republicans in Congress want to limit the ability of a woman to exercise her Constitutional right to choose to have an abortion. Diana has always believed in a woman’s right to choose, and will fight every effort by Republicans to control women’s bodies.
